ROSGEN SHORT COURSES & WORKSHOPS
Dave Rosgen is a professional hydrologist and geomorphologist with more than 40 years of experience in river systems, including 20 years with the U.S. Forest Service. He has designed and implemented over 70 large-scale river restoration projects.
He developed widely used tools and methods, including the Rosgen stream classification system, the BANCS streambank erosion model, FLOWSED/POWERSED sediment transport models, and the WARSSS methodology for watershed assessment. He also advanced a geomorphic approach to Natural Channel Design.
Rosgen teaches short courses in river morphology, watershed management, and restoration, and is the author of Applied River Morphology and Watershed Assessment of River Stability and Sediment Supply (WARSSS). His work has been featured in major publications, including Time, Science, National Geographic, and The New York Times.
Level I – Applied Fluvial Morphology

The Applied Fluvial Geomorphology course combines lecture and field applications to familiarize students with the fundamentals of river behavior and the general principles of fluvial geomorphology. Applications of these principles are presented using a stream classification system.

The River Morphology & Applications course trains students to conduct a geomorphic characterization and delineate stream types using the stream classification method as published in Applied River Morphology (Rosgen, 1996)

Level III – River Assessment and Monitoring

The River Assessment & Monitoring course includes “hands-on” techniques for field measurements, data analysis and interpretations, and the use of replicate studies for verification and time-trend analysis.

Registration & Payment Policy:
Credit card information is required during registration to reserve a slot in all courses. Credit cards are charged only after confirmed acceptance into a course, and registered participants will be notified prior to transactions. Arrangements to pay by check can be made (payable to Resource Institute), although a credit card is still required to reserve a slot. WE DO NOT ACCEPT purchase orders, SF 182 forms, or electronic transfers.
The fees for each course include the course tuition and course materials; participants are responsible for food and lodging unless noted otherwise.
Cancellation Policy:
Once the full tuition is paid, it will not be refunded. Substitutions are encouraged. Although rare, Resource Institute reserves the right to cancel a class and refund all deposit and tuition payments received. All refunds will be by check only – NO EXCEPTIONS.
Wait List Policy:
Many classes fill rapidly – for classes that are full, we accept wait list registrations by completing the registration form (please specify in the comments box any additional classes you wish to be wait listed for). Credit card information supplied at the time of registration will not be charged for participants placed on a wait list. If slots become available for the course, Resource Institute will offer admission to wait listed registrants. Wait listed registrants will also be given early notification to register for classes offered the following year.
