Kennon A. “Ken” White has lived in the Advance, Davie County, NC community for over 30 years. He is currently serving as the Executive Development Coordinator, for the MBA program, at the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University. Ken is on the graduate faculty and teaches and works with students in leadership, management, and sustainability. Before working for ASU, he had a long career with Mack Trucks, where he advanced into Sales Management and retired as the Business Development Manager for Western North Carolina. Ken is a Georgia native, serving on active duty with the United States Marine Corps during the Viet Nam conflict. Upon honorable discharge, Ken returned to college while working as a State Trooper on the Highway Patrol. He enjoys speaking to groups using humorous stories of his life experiences.
Ken served two terms as a County Commissioner in Davie County, four years serving as Vice Chairman or Chair of the Davie County Commissioners. He has been a Hospital trustee for Wake Forrest Baptist, Davie County Hospital for 15years. Additionally, Ken has been a trustee for Davidson County Community College for 10 years and is currently in his fifth year as Board Chair. He has served on the Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments, The District Nine Department of Transportation, The Piedmont Triad Regional Partnership and YVEDDI, a four-county service agency overseeing Smart Start and transportation needs for disabled. He is an advanced certified lay speaker in the United Methodist Church.
In 2005-2007, Ken served as the campaign coordinator for the Strength for Service Campaign for Western North Carolina Conference. A program adopted by the General Conference of the Methodist Church to put daily prayer devotionals into the hands of every active-duty soldier, sailor, marine and airman serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
Ken holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina Greensboro, and a Master’s Degree in Higher Education and a Master of Business Administration from Appalachian State University.
He is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, fishing, and hunting and a former area chairman of Duck’s Unlimited. He considers himself a guardian of our environment and feels a deep personal commitment to be a good steward of what has been entrusted to us. He desires to preserve what we have for future generations. He enjoys and works with ASU MBA students in sustainability projects each semester.
